Deckbuilder roguelite demo
This is a short prototype made as a concept demo for my game prototyping class
[Defeat enemies and steal their cards to enhance your own strength]
The game is a roguelite deckbuilder where you fight enemies then add one of their cards to your own deck before fighting more enemies. I also added an endless mode so you can keep fighting if you're enjoying the run.
Features of this demo:
- Playable prototype representing the concept.
- Implements the complete combat gameplay loop.
- Endless mode
- Built in godot
How to Play
- Controls: You move cards from the hand to the pile with the mouse then end your turn.
- Objective: Defeat enemies then take their cards to grow stronger
Reflection
- Is it representative of the core loop you wanted?
It is definitely representative of the core loop I wanted which makes me happy. You get to fight these enemies and deal with their weird abilities before making it your own if you want. You can also plan ahead for what cards you want to add later.
Did it give you an answer to the question you posed, and if so, what is the answer?
It gave an answer to the question of if it'd be cool if the enemies had their own decks and you could take their cards. I feel like endless mode was a great addition so you can keep the cycle of adding cards going.
- How would you change it, if at all?
In terms of gameplay itself I'm pretty happy but I wish the balancing was a bit better and I wish the witch enemy was more interesting. I also wish I was a bit clearer in terms of the status effects and what they do.
- Where would you take the idea next?
The game really just needs more content in my opinion, More cards, more statuses etc. I'd like to add something like a map so that the game had some more decision making to it. I definitely think the core idea is promising though.
